A Tumbleweed Christmas
A Tumbleweed Christmas In those days, I worked for the Department of motor vehicles in the state of Califoia. I have lived in Lancaster, Califoia, which is about 50 miles north of Los Angeles. This is the dessert area. Very hot in summer and snow, every three years during the winter. This winter has been an easy winter. At least the time it was easy. My life began to crumble before my eyes. At the mature age of 38 years, I almost had a stroke in my work and was ordered by my doctor to quit my job. Quit my job! What I was going to do? We were in a small town and jobs are scarce! I could never find a job with the job security that I had with the State of Califoia. The good thing is that I had a choice, if you could call it. I could stay in my current job and the risk of dying or you could go and live for my son. What a choice! For me, there is only one choice. My son came first. The only work he had done was in office and the majority of jobs in the local newspaper wanted to write 80 words per minute. I must admit that writing has never been my best attribute and 80 words per minute, was my way out of the series of 60 words per minute is more in my field. I was able to save some 'savings, while I was working and said to my retirement money. I tried to start a home business, but not with that. My money is almost gone and had nothing to fall back. Above all this is close to Christmas. Now what? The only alteative I had was to go to the Department of Public Services [better known as welfare]. I was told that would be two months before it could receive the money, but I have food stamps immediately. Well, at least knew that we eat at Christmas! What are the gifts, a tree and all the other things that my daughter and I had been accustomed to every year? You know, the "traditional" things all the families in the United States had to Christmas? I knew one thing, and I could not not let my daughter down! I have a sewing school, the men had suits at the same time and had an old sewing machine. A friend of mine gave me ten bolts of material that had been hidden in the garage of their cleanliness. I have some clothes for my daughter for Christmas. My daughter, 11 years, was so brave. After explaining our situation, he went to ask one of our neighbors to teach how to make macramé. If you are familiar with this craft is used to make the owners of the facilities were of ya. I did not know he was doing and that I was sewing his Christmas gift, while the time spent in the house of neighbors. I thought it was play and have a good time. I still had a problem. What to do about a tree? I told my daughter that would not be able to have a tree this Christmas. She told me: "Mommy, why not use a Tumbleweed." I thought and said why not? Were abundant in the desert and free. We went out and chose a Tumbleweed as if we are collecting the perfect Christmas tree. When you find the right one, we came home, put the lights and appeared on popco and strung the tree. Christmas moing was filled with anticipation and excitement. I was surprised to find two gifts under the tree in my name in them. As my daughter to me two gifts? She had no money. When she asked me in this regard, he said, "just called his mother." I opened and was pleasantly surprised! They were just beautiful. That matched my decor too! He explained that all the time that had happened in the neighboring house, he was leaing to do these for me. This has touched my heart to heart. I have never forgotten that to this day. Neither is my daughter. When it comes to Christmas, now, she always mentions our Tumbleweed Christmas and how it is recalled that during the Christmas holidays, all the rest. It always refers to it as the best Christmas ever.
